There are probably still some old Buslogic 946 PCI adapters floating
around for on the order of $20 USD or less. Try looking in 2nd hand
computer shops, the forsale groups on usenet and the auction web sites.

While the newer cards have significant advantages over the 946s for
use with modern, high speed disks, a 946 will be fine for anything else.

And the driver is among the best in the kernel.
