USB, Umax USB 1220-U Scanner, SCSI over USB

kernels is working. I see that mouse and keyboard support is in there. Disk
support is being worked on. I don't see anything about scanner support, yet.

Would a SCSI over USB software bridge make it easy to create a back end for
the Umax 1220-U? If so, what form would that software take: Linux Device
Driver or included in the SANE Back End for the scanner, or what?

Would the command set be the same for the USB version of the scanner as the
command set for the SCSI version of the scanner?

Would it be most correct to simply call the Linux USB device driver (for
what? generic USB device?) from the SANE Back End for the scanner?
