Hi,

does Linux crash ? Then I suppose its a problem with the SCSI drivers.
It would be interesting which SCSI-card you are using.
If sane (scanimage/xscanimage) crashes, it could be a problem
of the hp-backend. Then you should upgrade to Sane 1.01
