Hi,

is there anybody out there who has already suceeded in using
the HP ScanJet 5100C with SANE ? Then please tell me how you did it.
Or is there someone who has access to this scanner and want to
try to get it working ? If you also know how to compile
kernel drivers/modules and how to install them, then you are the one
I am looking for.
Currently there seem to be two possibilities to get the 5100C working.

1.: An EPST-driver for Linux located at ftp://ftp.signum.se/pub/epst
This solution uses a patch against a Linux 2.0.29 kernel.
It should make the scanner available as a SCSI device.

2.: An EPST-driver for Linux located at
http://www.torque.net/parport/parscsi.html (section Shuttle Technology,
epst.c, epst.h)
This one can be compiled as a module. Maybe some timeout values
must be modified in the driver.

The second one should be easier to test. It does not need to patch the
kernel. If someone can test that, it would be great.

If you have problems with configuration, I can try to help you.
At least for the torque.net-driver, the current hp-backend should be
configured in the /usr/local/etc/sane.d/hp.conf file with

/dev/XyZ
option connect-device

Thanks in advance
