xsane-0.14 dont run on my linux

I tried to run xsane-1.14 on linux 2.0.36. What I have done
configure
make
make install all without errors.
When I try to run xsane it not finds libsane-dll.so.1.0.0
I also tried to set LD_LIBRARY_PATH to the installed libs at compile and
runtime with no success.

Sane-1.00 is completley installed. If I build xsane-0.13 from within
sane and say make install it will run.
Some ideas?

Additional information for Oliver. On my unixware 2.x box xsane-0.14
compilesand runs without problems. It seems the C++ comments in the
source code are gone. Thanks.
