Hi Martin,
I don't know a solution for this and it will take a while until I will update to
Kernel 2.2
But if you like, you can do:
export SANE_DEBUG_UMAX=127
export SANE_DEBUG_DLL=127
xscanimage 2>output.txt
and send me output.txt
