Epson GT-7000 works

The Epson GT-7000 seems to work just fine.

I installed the scanner and sane and have tried it through xscanimage and gimp
1.0.2 without too many problems (mostly due to pilot error and failure to
rtfm).

I am not a programmer by an means so I am reduced to using rpms, sane-1.00-1
from the contrib site. I am using a RedHat distribution, kernel 2.0.36 and
Adaptec 2920 with the aic7xxx module. I tried compiling from the source code
but I have a few problems with the gtk libraries installed so I can't get past
compiling xscanimage.

As for the known problems:

- image depth

I compared this against a downloaded jpg that I thought looked okay, using
gimp, and I got the same info, i.e. RGB colour, True Colour, Visual Depth 16
(that's my x-window I guess), shades 8 / 4 / 8.

- gamma-table is for CRT-B only

Don't know what that even means, sorry

- cancel does not work

not tried it yet

- device name fixed to /dev/scanner

My /etc/saned/epson.conf is just 'scsi EPSON' and it works just great. I don't
even have a /dev/scanner

- memory leaks

I know what that is but I don't know how to find out if it does, no help there
I am afraid.

Thanks for the great utility and thanks to Kazuhiro for the Epson backend.

If there is anything further you need, any details etc, let me know and I will
do what I can to help you out. As I said I am not a programmer but if you give
me some instructions I could give it a go.

Task for Sunday - install saned and try network scanning.

Regards
