SANE and MicroTek ScanMaker X6

I have read the "supported devices" doco at the SANE
website and am down to a choice between 2 reasonably
priced scanners:

Astra 1220s (UMAX) vs ScanMaker X6EL-DP (MicroTek)

The 1220s seems like a very safe choice, the VW or
Ford of scanners for Linux. But the ScanMaker X6EL-DP
has a feature I really want, which is a 35mm slide
adapter.

The SANE doco says that the ScanMaker X6 is supported
(that is, there is no warning or other comment associated
with it) yet I am wary of the variant model number,
because mfrs do change device internals rather freely
between revs of the same model...

So, my question: does anyone know whether the X6EL-DP
is functionally equivalent to the plain X6? Has anyone
tried it? Would I be stupid to go out and buy this
scanner in the hope of getting it to work with SANE and
my RedHat 5.1 Pentium system with Adaptec SCSI card?

If the experts feel the X6EL-DP variant is unsafe then
I will fall back on the 1220s and give up on scanning in
any of my thousands of 35mm slides... :-(
