Although there is such a feature in the windows-software (vistascan),the scanner
does not create a 8-bit-rgb-image.

If this would be programmed, it should be done in the frontend so it could be
used for
every scanner.

In the moment I would say do the color-reduction afterwards with xv or gimp.

I will think about adding such feature into xsane.
