Maybe related to SG_BIG_BUFF inconsistency. Check /usr/include/scsi/sg.h.
If it is 127 kByte (strongly recommended) you have to recompile the kernel.
And set SANE_DEBUG_MUSTEK to 128 before using scanimage to get more
debug output
