Hi,

a new version of the microtek2 backend can be downloaded from

ftp://ftp.muc.de/people/bernds/mtek2/microtek2-pre0.6.291298.tar.gz .

This version should be considered experimental, because it contains a
number of untested features/enhancements. The most important ones are:

- Support for non-blocking IO's. Basically this simplifies the whole
data processing, but the necessary changes affect large parts of the
respective code. In particular it is interesting to know, whether the
following options work (they are untested):

o color mode on models that print the following line for the data format
(if 'option dump 1' is set in the microtek2.conf file):

Data format: Chunky data, R, G & B in one pixel

o more than 8 bit grayscale and more than 24 bit color scans on models
that support this.

- Preliminary support for a strip and a slide mode. I assume (but am not
quite sure), that this 35mm slide & filmstrip adapter, which comes
bundled with some models, requires these modes.

Up to now I didn't figure out, how the backend can
dynamically determine, whether such an adapter is actually attached to
the scanner. To enable this feature it is necessary to uncomment the
lightlid-35 opton in the microtek2.conf file, that is included in the
archive. Then the frontend should offer a choice of scan sources,
if the device supports these modes. This is completely untested.

- For people, who are annoyed, if the the scanhead moves back and fourth
during a scan (backtracking): There is a new option 'disable backtracking'.
At present this option must be activated by uncommenting the respective
entry in the included microtek2.conf file. This is an advanced option.

- The X6EL should no longer produce pixel junk after one successful scan.
