Well, that doesn't help me out any...I already have a parallel scanner. I
can't just go about tossing money away on peripherals. This one was a
gift from a parent. It's hard to commit the proverbial heresy of ditching
my Windows partition if I have hardware not supported in Linux. Parallel
scanners are cheap and getting scarfed up. Maybe a parallel scanner sucks
up processor time. Oh, well. I think simply the point that they're on
the shelves is a good reason for supporting them.
I mean, just because you think a certain technology isn't a good idea is
no reason to support it. There's lots of consumer-focused (i.e. cheap and
"easy") hardware out there, and it all runs under Windows. Shouldn't we
give it a shot?
FWIW, I'm working on my Mustek 1200 III EP scanner. I want a driver for
it, because I'd rather not feel like I need to buy a scanner when I have a
functional, but "unsound," one already. I don't know jack about system
programming and will not go anywhere with the driver I'm getting started
on. Heck...because my monitor exploded last week, I can't even run Wine
and scan the parallel port to get a starting point.
But at least I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm annoyed that the company
isn't helping. Annoyed people are the backbone of Linux.
I figured I'd put in my two cents, FWIW.
