David,
I've tested pre-1.0 with an HP ScanJet 5P (C5110A 3638) on Linux
2.1.125 and 2.0.35 (both UP and SMP). Everything seems to work fine,
including the custom gamma table. Let me know if there is anything
special you would like me to test.
Take care,
Petter

Seems like a jolly good idea, though I'm sure somebody will come along and whinge about the code layout shortly.
STRLEN should be (PATH_MAX + some more)
call to strchr should use strrchr in case I want my filename to be /somewhere.eps/.jpg/blurb.gz.jpg.ps (time for my yellow pill)
This facility should exist for scanimage as well as xscanimage.
Include bzip2 (http://www.muraroa.demon.co.uk) compression. In the table/filters.conf separate compressors from format converters.
