- sane itself:
compiles without any error under solaris (sparc and x86), even with
the original SUN (not GNU) printf.

- hp backend: I testet with two scanners.
It works very well. Custom gamma table support is phantastic (never
got slide scans in this quality).
The difference:

-- HP C1750A 3226 (Scanjet IIc)
no problems, very stable

-- HP C6270A 3824 (Scanjet VI)
works mostly. The automatic sheet feeder takes one sheet of paper
every time the scan button is pressed, if paper is loaded in it.
However, it is not foolproof: sometimes it crashes, and than it is
spoiled. It refuses to do anything useful, even if I remove all files
in .sane and .sane/xscanimage. I will send detailed information to
Peter Kirchgessner.
