Dear Dr. Bolsch,

I just wanted to send a wholeheartedly thanks about the new
Mustek SANE backend to you. A lot has improved since the latest
official release. The two points I was really sad about seem
to be completely fixed now.

I own a Mustek 1200SP, firmware rev. 1.05 (which doesn't
appear as "supported" in the backend manpage) and the two top
problems that kept me from using SANE were:

- The scanner seemed not to use the SCSI buffer at all (or
even mostly), resulting in an almost steady forward-and-back
movement because data were constantly transmitted to the
computer, which causes the slide to move into a "parking"
position.

- After resuming operation from the parking position, the
slide resumed scanning at a certain "offset", resulting in
horizontally broken-up pictures

Both problems seem to be gone with the new backend; even
at the highest color resolution, the scanner takes a good bit
of the image to be scanned before moving into the parking
position (i.e. moving about half an inch backwards) to send
the data to the PC. After resuming operation, the slide now
picks up the scanning process exactly from the position where
it stopped - the resulting picture is, frankly, flawless

With high hopes and many, many thanks,

Manfred Lemke (ukpr@rz.uni-karlsruhe.de)
