A pre-release is now available for testing at:

ftp://ftp.mostang.com/pub/sane/beta/

There are two files there:

-rw-r--r-- 1 davidm davidm 182335 Oct 31 02:35 sane-0.74-pre0.75.diff.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 davidm davidm 833268 Oct 31 02:34 sane-pre0.75.tar.gz

The first is a diff relative to v0.74 and the second is a full tar
ball.

NOTE: I would highly recommend to test this pre-release if you're the
owner of an HP or Mustek scanner. The reason for this is that in both
cases the backends were replaced by a newer and better version. While
every attempt has been made to preserve backwards compatibility, there
is always the chance that something broke so you may want to test
things now. Be sure to preserve your existing installation so that if
there is a problem, you aren't stuck with a non-functional version
(the "--prefix" configuration option may come in handy here).

If you're a backend maintainer, please take a look at what's there
now. In particular, let me know if you'd like to see anything added
to the NEWS file or if I missed a patch.

Happy hacking,

--david
