Help with sane needed...

Hello all! I'm having problems getting sane to even reconize my
scanner, and to get xscanimage into the GIMP menu.. I've got a HP 4C,
I've tried to ./MAKEDEV scanner and sga as suggested. Also, my sane.d
seems to be a tad bit empty... is that normal? Oh... I'm running 0.74
with the latest version of GIMP.
