Two notes:
1) grab the v0.8 of the microtek backend from my website; it has a
fix so that the backend will work properly with saned.

2) the conventional wisdom these days: comment out any other backends
in "dll.conf"

Well, that's very strange.
Yes, send me a complete debug log (SANE_DEBUG_MICROTEK <- 128), and
sample images --- no JPEG, though. Please use the original pnm or
some other lossless format.
Send to "mtek-bugs@mir.com" (easier book-keeping).
(And, please scan photographs for the test. Screen printed images
give artifacts from interference effects.)
