RGB-exposure and RGB-shift used in Gray images?

Hello,

I want to write a program derived from xscanimage which should scan
ONLY Gray images. For some technical reasons the used black and
white film which I want to scan with Nikon Coolscan is more or less
(were more is the normal case) underexposed.

I wonder if the RGB settings from xscanimage have any influence when
scanning a gray image. I have the hope via some finei-tuning at the
RGB-values to get some more contrast or brightness caused by a
different sensitivity of the different colors.

So the first question is: HAVE the RGB settings any influence on gray images?

The second is: IF YES, does anyone have any experiences with this
particular scanner according to this problem?

Kind regards

Andreas.
