Backend for EasyPhoto SmartPage

Back in my WinDOZE days, I purchased a parallel-port scanner which
plugged directly into my printer port. There is no interface card for
this scanner. All of its software is Windows driven and they have no
software (I checked their web site) for Unix. I am using a stand-alone
machine running Slackware Linux 3.0 (with a 2.0.25 kernel). The scanner
I bought is an EasyPhoto SmartPage, by Storm.
If there is no hope for this scanner, what scanner would you recommend
for me to buy (best quality, moderate price)?
