That is not correct that way:
While scanning the scsi-bus is used for a long time, but it is not
locked for the whole time.
I am using an UMAX S12 on an NCR810 card and it works very well.
If you need short disc-acces-times while scanning, it is a good
idea to use an own scsi-card for the scanner, but it is not necessary!
