Hi folks,

in sane-hp(1):

If you own a ScanJet scanner other than the ones listed
above, please let us know if your model works with this
backend. To do this, send a mail with the relevant infor-
mation for your scanner to sane-devel@mostang.com.

I tried to set up a HP ScanJet 5100C. It has a parallel port
interface, with an internal EPST (SCSI adapter) chip. I used Grant R.
Guenther's linux EPST kernel module (ftp://ftp.torque.net/pub/epst.c),
which I hacked in a couple of places to stop it timing out from the
scanner's slow responses. I now get no error messages from the driver
(e.g. through dmesg), however xscanimage is still not 100% : it thinks
everything is okay, however the images that come out (preview or
otherwise) are about 50% good, interspersed with rows of garbage about
50 pixels high or so. scanimage, on the other hand, outputs some
garbage (about the same size as the xscanimage garbage chunks) and then
dies in a bus error. I could send you a core file from this ... or even
look into it myself if I get around to it.

...But I understand the difficulty in supporting something you don't
own one of and something that relies on an alpha version kernel module...
