What you are asking for ...."protocol documentation", is not
something
that Minolta USA provides. We consider that a software developers
kit, SDK, and we are unable to provide that information.

I will attempt to contact them, but perhaps I didn't make myself clear.

I know that you do not have drivers for Linux or Unix. What I was trying
to say was, if Minolta could supply the information about how the scanner
works (the "protocol documentation"), geeks like me will write a driver
that will work with the (already existing) SANE software. An analogy
would be this: suppose you didn't have a Macintosh plug-in for Adobe
Photoshop, and Mac people wrote their own plug-in so the Dimage scanner
would work with Photoshop. That's basically what we want to do for you
for the Linux platform.

You supply the necessary information, and we'll do the dirty work. Then
you can advertise that "drivers exist" for the Linux platform!

I replied & told them I'd forward this on to the mailing list & webpage
so that other Linux users will know to avoid Minolta scanners of any kind.
