There is an expanded HP backend written by Geoffrey T. Dairiki
<dairiki@apl.washington.edu> with much more of the SCL backend
implemented for various HP scanners. I had been hoping to expand on
his work, and even got the documentation from HP, but my other GNU
projects started taking up what little spare time I have.

In his last post to this newsgroup, the patch is at:

ftp://irving.apl.washington.edu/pub/sane/sane-0.68-newhp.patch.README
ftp://irving.apl.washington.edu/pub/sane/sane-0.68-newhp.patch.gz

and is for sane-0.68

The patch works well, but his changes need to be merged into the HP
backend proper. If the links above don't work, I still have the
patch.

Enjoy
Eric
