I've wrote a SANE frontend for K Desktop Environment (KDE,
http://www.kde.org), kscan. To compile it, you need KDE libraries and Qt
library (http://www.troll.no).
It supports brightness/contrast adjustment without rescanning the
preview image, i.e. it emulates scanner's brightness/contrast options.
Also there are another useful features, such as gamma correction and
zooming preview image.
Current version is 0.1 alpha. Locations:
ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/unstable/apps/graphics/kscan-0.1.tar.gz
ftp://rf-hp.npi.msu.su/pub/kscan/kscan-0.1.tar.gz
Most likely this version can only work with flatbed scanners.
I could only test it with my computer and my scanner (HP ScanJet 5p
connected to
BusLogic FlashPoint LT SCSI card). Please report both successful and
unsuccessful
attempts to use it to me (ivan_iv@rf-hp.npi.msu.su, not
ivan@rf-hp.npi.msu.su).
Homepage for kscan will be created soon. I'll provide a link to it
from my
homepage (http://rf-hp.npi.msu.su). There will be some screenshots and
links to
precompiled binaries.
I saw there a message about auto brightness/contrast adjustment. I
think it is
based on correcting the image histogram (centering/widening maybe). I'll
try to
include this feature in 0.2.
