Shouldn't it suffice to test out which length the TA has and adjust the
defaults accordingly ?
Another tip for Mustek scanner owners:
I finally got upset enough about the stripes of dirt on the _under_side
of the scanner glass which degraded scan quality for me quite a bit
(the scanner had been delivered in that state ...) to open it and clean
it. This is a painless operation on the MFS-12000SP (just remove the lid
and 4 screws), so do not hesitate to do it.
