problems with sane and linux...

When trying to scan with an HP4c on linux 2.0.30, I get a "permission denied"
error trying to open the /dev/sga device -- even if I'm running scanimage or
xscanimage as root. Any ideas?

I can confirm this by trying "cat /dev/sga" as root -- still permission denied.

The device is probed and configured properly, and shows up in /proc/scsi/scsi.

Incidentally, I notice that /dev/sga only allows opens with O_RDWR flags on.
If you try to open it O_RDONLY or O_WRONLY, it gives EPERM.
Has sane changed in some way to only open the device read or write only? :)

I don't have the source on hand to look right now, as i deleted it a while
back in a fit of confusion over which version of gtk+ and god knows what
else goes with which version of xscanimage and doesn't conflict with which
version of gimp. :)
