I'am thinking of buying a flatbed scanner for my laptop and have just come
across sane. With a laptop the best option looks to be a scanner with
a parallel port. Now the UMAX Astra 600p is very keenly priced and would
be my first choice.

I realize that there is currently no backend for this scanner, so I would
have to write my own. This is no problem as long as UMAX will give out the
technical info. As their are backends for other UMAX scanners does this
mean UMAX will release the necessary info to me? Does anyone on this list have
a contact email address at UMAX?
