I haven't received any reports regarding the HP 5s. The 5p is known
to work fine and I hope the same is true for the 5s, but I don't know
for sure.

No, not as far as I can tell. TWAIN is meaningless as far as Linux is
concerned. If you want something that is known to work, stick to
what's listed in the relevant man pages (sane-mustek(5), sane-umax(5),
sane-hp(5)).
