Seemed you stepped into your first problem with Mustek scanners
:-(.Nobody knows how they will behave in certain situations. I think
e.g. HP
isn`t mentioned such much because there aren`t much problems with it.

Ok, I`m afraid I can`t help with driver fixes - I don`t have timeout
problems
with this adapter (and my MFS-06000CX) at all. Yes, the AVA-1505 is just

another AHA-1505 (1515 without BIOS). I bought this adapter because I
couldn`t
get the scanner working together with my system disk on the same adapter
(NCR 810)
- the system froze nearly every time I scanned under X11. I chose the
AVA-1505
because I heard of good experiences with it in a windoze (scanner)
newsgroup (don`t
know anymore).
Your adapter setup seems to be ok. The only thing you have to be aware
of is that
"reconnect" must be disabled otherwise the scanner isn`t found.
The problem may lie in the scanner itself. Try to remove the terminator
from the scanner (It shouldn`t make a difference but nobody knows...) On
the Cebit this year
I talked to a Mustek-person who told me to connect my ZIP-drive after
the scanner
and terminate this (but for me there is no difference). Try to connect
another device
to your adapter (alone and with the scanner) so that you can be sure
your adapter
is working.

I don`t know parameters for the dos-driver. The scanner works with win95
and
Mustek`s TWAIN - driver (not as good as SANE). The miniport-driver is
available
at http://www.adaptec.com. You must boot win95 with the scanner turned
on. The
adapter and the scanner are found and you have to disable disconnect in
"Gerätemanager-> Scanner->Einstellungen" (don`t know the English terms
exactly).
Now you can install the twain driver with the adaptec option.
