All right, after more hacking than anticipated, sane-0.54 is finally
available. It's all at:

ftp://ftp.azstarnet.com/pub/linux/axp/sane/

The following files are available:

- sane-0.54.tar.gz
- sane-0.53-0.54.diff.gz
- gtk+970418-davidm.tar.gz

If you're planning on using the graphical tools, be sure to upgrade to
the latest GTK+ version. You can do this either by downloading and
installing gimp-0.99.8 or you can fetch the above gtk+970418-davidm
tar ball. I'd suggest to get the latter since it comes with a new
widget that's needed for vectors (see below).

What's new?

- xscan got renamed to xscanimage, scan to scanimage (to avoid
confusion due to name collisions)
- SANE now compiles with pretty much any ANSI C compiler; I
tested the following platforms:

Digital Unix, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris

- xscanimage now supports vector options (such as gamma-tables
or tonemaps); it's pretty nifty, but see for yourself at:

For details, see the NEWS and ChangeLog files.

Thanks to everbody who contributed to this release!

Happy hacking,

--david
