HP backend for SANE

In the hope of jump-starting the HP-backend a bit, I implemented a
first prototype based on hpscanpbm. I don't have an HP scanner to
test it with, so it's very likely that the current code has some bugs
(it compiles cleanly, though... ;-). Thus, I'd appreciate if those of
you with access to some HP scanner could test this a bit and let me
know how it goes. If it doesn't work, please send me the output you
get with:

SANE_DEBUG_HP=128 scan -d hp >/dev/null

Also tell me exactly what scanner you're using. Ideally, I'd like to
know the model name (e.g., ScanJet IIcx) _and_ the SCSI id string
(e.g., C2500A---see /var/log/messages).

The new code is available in the latest pre0.5 snapshot:

ftp://ftp.azstarnet.com/pub/linux/axp/sane/sane-pre0.5.tar.gz

Note: before building SANE, you'll want to build & install GIMP 0.99.x
first. Otherwise, you won't get any of the graphical frontends (xscan
& xcam).
