I was playing around with the metadl backend, and discovered that it
tries to open the shared library without a path. Shouldn't it instead
look into /usr/local/etc/sane.d ? Or should the sysadmin add that
directory to the ld.so.conf or LD_LIBRARY_PATH ? Since all sane
backends reside there I think it's a good idea to have metadl look
there as well.

Work on xscan continues (albeit a little slowly). Those damn rulers
really piss me off... guess I'll have to patch gtk at some point.
